[Cancelled] 4th Best Estimate Plus Uncertainty International Conference (BEPU 2021)

The 4th Best Estimate Plus Uncertainty International Conference (BEPU 2021) will be held in Giardini Naxos, Sicily, Italy on May 17-22, 2020.

The BEPU 2020 Conference has been postponed. According to the official website:

Due to the current situation of Corona Virus and based on the results of the survey we have decided to postpone the BEPU2020 conference to October 11-17, 2020May 30 to June 5, 2021.

The objective of the BEPU conference is to provide a platform to exchange experiences and views among nuclear industry professionals in the development and use of the Best Estimate Plus Uncertainty (BEPU) methods in the safety analyses and design of nuclear installations.

What is BEPU?

In case you’re wondering… BEPU, or Best Estimate Plus Uncertainty, is an approach to evaluate the safety of nuclear power plants. In a nutshell, the approach combines predictions made by best-estimate computer code with uncertainty analysis to quantify the uncertainty of the code predictions. BEPU should, therefore, provide a more realistic estimate of the plant responses under transients and it often results in a higher margin to the acceptance criterion imposed by the nuclear safety regulatory body. Before BEPU, all analyses have to be made with conservative (less realistic) code under conservative (pessimistic) assumptions.

The conference has been canceled.

From the organizer:

After careful consideration of the ongoing worldwide spread of COVID-19 and the current trend of the vaccination campaign, we have decided to not conduct BEPU-2020 (which was already postponed twice) in Giardini Naxos next May 2021. BEPU-2020 is thus definitively cancelled and we will organize the next edition in 2023 with a call-for-papers planned to be announced by the end of 2021.
